After sitting in the library all day, Sam was pretty glad to have cheerleading practice to look forward to. Moving around to get the mats set up felt good, and it was worth putting up with the peppy music to see everyone. He could help his eardrums recover with real music later.

Just a few hours ago, the flamingoes had given up on their sudden, magical performance, and retreated to their usual perches for the night. The Student Council's coffee cart was back in the lobby today, having been restocked with muffins, pastries, and other sugary sweets, along with plenty of caffeine. A few weeks ago, Sam had been worried about being involved in so many things. Now, he was grateful to have a variety of activities with which to distract himself, which was why he was at the gym so early setting out the mats and music for practice. Maybe if he didn't act like he was grieving, he could pretend there was nothing to grieve about.

Karla fled towards the dorms, running as if there were Hell-hounds flat on her heels. Just a little bit further, she thought. Just a little bit faster… She was flagging, and quickly, but she reached down deep in her reserves and dredged up enough energy for one last little burst of speed.

As far as Sam was aware, everything was normal today, so he hoped that meant people would have an easier time at practice than last week. He got the mats out and turned on some appropriate music - nothing he'd listen to of his own volition, but the beat was good to work out to here.
